Post Christmas Post

Christmas was a quiet time, we didn't stand much on formality and I have enjoyed school being out ALMOST as much as my daughter. I am always working on one project or another and will try to include at least one visit to Hobby Lobby during the holidays before time slips away from us.

I hope everyone had a safe, warm holiday and enjoyed their family and friends, now on to the New Year.

The weather might mean some snow here overnite. I know that my daughter will be dreaming of it, hoping to wake up to the hushed stillness and enveloping white of the new fallen snow in the morning.

Here's hoping she'll ride the bus so I don't have to drive. :)

Posting as we go - pictures of a really easy, fun project. Our custom painted tee shirt. Don't worry if you don't have alot of artistic skills either. If you can color coloring book pages, you can do this project!

We started out with a Coloring Tee, here's where we got ours (here), but there are tons of them out there.

Ours came in the mail today and we'll get started this afternoon when my daughter gets home from school to help!

Halloween is on the way! I'm working on Papier Mache' art for Etsy and Ebay.

Saturday, July 24, 2010

well, for any artist, there's always the question of whether or not to use an agent. I'm looking into beginning to think about starting a search for one (Laugh). For anyone else that is still without one, here's a good article from "Global Licensing", the licensing magazine. Click here

Operation Etsy

Well, I've been working on Photographing some Halloween art for Etsy (yes, already! lol). I've also been having a wonderful time working on some dimensional (papier mache' and polymer clay) art which has been amazingly inspiring. After working on paper for so long, it's wonderful to see my drawings become 3d.

The process of going from paper to Papier Mache is much easier than it would seem as well. I had thought it might be a bit of a struggle, but it's really fun and my only hardship has been to keep my daughter from wanting to examine it all. The glass eyes are apparently very hard to resist. I looked down a few days ago, to see a pair of purple eyes staring up from the floor - no one knew how they got there!

At any rate, these and many others will start turning up on Etsy soon.

More Flowers

I seem to spend alot of time photoing flowers - just a slight obsession I have! These are some gorgeous Texas wildflowers that I've been trying to locate seeds for forever. I bought some from a company on the internet, we'll see if they make it or not. These plants need to be grown with grass, so that makes it alot more interesting than normal plantings. I'll wait to name the company I got the seeds from until I see how they do! Many thanks to the sage Mr. Neil Sperry who told me the name of these beauties.

Indian Paintbrush Inspiration

These pictures were taken a recent trip to the Metroplex.

After a really wet winter and some good spring rains, the wildflowers are gorgeous right now. There were whole fields of color dotting the roadsides. The colors are like an impressionist painting in full bloom.

This is an old picture our little Fairie Bower - it's Andie's little getaway in the back yard and the inspiration for the "fairie bower" website as well. It's recycled garden fencing and some strategically planted gourds and other flowering vines, gives her a little santuary thru the summer. Not really very exotic, but somehow always enchanting.
Opal, our little neighbor lady said Andie should have one 5 years ago and it's been a summer tradition every year since. Ms. Opal would fondly remember her childhood bowers that her mother planted with Cypress vines for her. We lost Ms. Opal last week, just a few weeks shy of her 89th birthday, so this year's bower will be a very special one and we'll be thinking of her each time we visit it.
Andie's bower changes a little each year and its been relocated once or twice, but it's always retained a tiny bit of the magic that makes it such a fun, shady little spot to play during the hot summer days or a cozy little hide out to watch the fireflies or stars on warm summer's night.
This year I think that we'll surround it with our little victory garden so she can help with the watering and to be sure that the new clematis vine we've added to the bower will survive the hot Texas sun.

After an unusual amount of rain, we had this Fairie Circle pop up near our house last year - it must have been about 10' in diameter.

I am hopefull that it will come back this spring. We've started the year off with above average moisture. We have had so much snow this winter that the lake reached the spillway for the first time in probably at least the last 6 years.

I'm hoping for a bumper crop of pink primrose, iris and I have bought a few new tulip bulbs to plant, so I am hoping for a colorful yard in the upcoming weeks.

Design a personalized gift at Zazzle.

Zazzle Store

I've inserted the panel below to give an idea of what's up at my "Zazzle Shop". I post new art on various products here from time to time.

The color me tees are lots of fun - I love the permanent fabric paints= and markers from http://www.yasutomo.com/ and I always find some great stuff in the way of glittery paints at the local Walmart craft department.

If you have any favorites that you'd like to see on a shirt or mug, just shoot me a message and I'll be happy to fix you up. The new hi-top tennis shoes are fantanstic looking and we'll probably try out a pair soon for my daughter. She's really into hi-tops.

I've been reading a really good book on doll making, called "Fantastic Figures" by Susanna Oroyan. I've enjoyed it alot and have really learned alot.

I just can't wait to get in the garden - I use the photos to dress up one of my websites - FairieBower.com. I have alot of fun with this site - being a novice to web design, I am a little limited, but it's great fun. Here's one of my favorite pages -www.fairiebower.com/fairies.html You never know what you might see if you look close!

I'm ready for spring. The truth is, I have been for at least 2 months now. I can hardly wait to see what's made it thru the snow we've had in our area this winter and to get started planting again.

I already have my precious seeds stacked together, ready to start planting and "painting" my garden.

This blog is a new venture as well - for older posts please go to http://valories-blog.livejournal.com/
